The FBI is offering a US$1-million reward for information leading to the arrest of Satinderjeet Singh (a.k.a. Goldy Brar), for his alleged involvement with an India-based crime group accused in a rash of violent crimes and extortions in Canada and the U.S., including the assassination of B.C. Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

The details: In naming Singh to the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list, authorities are hoping more publicity and a sizable reward can lead to tips from his inner circle, in the same way Canadian drug kingpin Ryan Wedding’s addition to the notorious list last year helped investigators arrest him in January.

The context: Monday’s press conference was the first high-profile public appearance for the FBI and RCMP in a joint investigation after the New York Times reported an alleged fissure between the two law enforcement agencies.

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand says the unexplained health ailments experienced by Canadian diplomats stationed in Cuba almost a decade ago are a human-resources concern for her department, sidestepping calls for a parliamentary inquiry into whether they were harmed by alleged sonic attacks linked to Russia.

The request: Ms. Anand told reporters Monday she has asked her top deputy to follow up on the case, but her office later confirmed the minister is not ordering the department to reopen a 2024 interdepartmental report that concluded the diplomats’ health concerns were not the result of “any malicious act of a foreign actor.”

U.S. President Donald Trump says he believes he can strike a trade agreement with Canada in the coming three or four weeks – a prediction offered on the eve of new import bans on select Canadian goods taking effect today. “They’re going to come in, and they’re going to say, ‘Sir, we are sorry,’” he said speaking to reporters in the White House.

The context: Trump’s comments came on the same day as news that Stelco Holdings plans to lay off hundreds of Ontario steel workers as it shuts down part of its Hamilton plant, saying this is a necessary move in the face of U.S. tariffs.

Tariff changes: An already-announced escalation of the U.S.-Canada trade war by Washington will bar some Canadian alcoholic beverages, motorcycles and other products starting at 12:01 a.m. today.

Locals and politicians condemned reports that members of a white nationalist group held a public demonstration in Kamloops, B.C., on Sunday. Police announced no arrests and did not explain what – if any – charges the masked men may face.
