A bevy of news and restaurant recommendations takes us inside a loaded baked potato bar in Broomfield this week, a Peruvian enclave in Longmont and a Den-Mex institution. I'm also looking for reader responses to my "Tip Pool" question, which is different every week. (If you think I've heard 'em all, I'm sorry to say you are mistaken.) And we have hot-dog-related news to share. Dig in!

Joe's Fancy Dogs

Beneath the piles of fresh toppings and condiments at Joe's Fancy Dogs is their calling card: a quarter-pound beef frank bursting with flavor. Craving a Chicago-style hot dog over the weekend, I searched for and took the family to this cart-turned-stand on a pedestrian block of 16th Street downtown. The Windy ($11.25) had the works -- diced tomatoes, pepperoncini, grilled onions, mustard and poppy seeds -- on top of a frank and bun grilled for exquisite crispness. Some might bristle at paying more than $10 for a hot dog, but when they're done this well and are this filling, it's easy to see the value.
