Taipei, Taiwan, September 30, 2026 –QNAP® Systems, Inc., a leading computing, networking, and storage solution innovator, today announced the new QSW-M5218 Series L3 Lite managed switches, including the [2] QSW-M5218-6F12Tand the PoE-capable [3] QSW-M5218P-6F12T. Aimed at SMBs and applications that demand high-speed network infrastructure — such as AV over IP transmission — the series features twelve 10GbE RJ45 ports and six 25GbE SFP28 uplink ports, with a switching capacity of up to 540 Gbps. By combining L3 Lite routing, MC-LAG high availability, and IEEE 1588v2 PTP precise time synchronization, it helps enterprises overcome core network bandwidth bottlenecks and build a stable, high-performance IT infrastructure with a seamless upgrade path.
As NAS devices, servers, and workstations move to 10GbE, traditional 1G/2.5G ports and a single 10G uplink are increasingly becoming performance bottlenecks. The QSW-M5218 Series uses high-density 10GbE interfaces to connect high-speed NAS, virtualization servers, and multimedia workstations, while its 25GbE SFP28 ports act as a high-bandwidth backbone that aggregates traffic into the enterprise core — delivering up to 2.5 times the per-port uplink bandwidth of 10G. At the endpoints, existing Cat 6a copper cabling can be reused without the need to lay new fiber, streamlining core network upgrades.
High-speed connectivity alone is not enough. Enterprises that need both 25GbE high-speed uplinks and inter-subnet routing have traditionally had to deploy complex, costly L3 core switches. The QSW-M5218 Series is the ideal solution, designed around a core philosophy: the simplicity and low barrier to entry of near-L2 deployment, combined with the L3 routing capabilities every enterprise needs. Compared with L2 managed switches that offer only VLAN/QoS, the QSW-M5218 Series has built-in L3 Lite, handling IPv4/IPv6 static routing, a DHCP server, and inter-VLAN routing locally to offload the core router and cut latency. And compared with L3 Full models that add OSPF/BGP dynamic routing, it significantly reduces costs, making it a perfect fit for the real-world needs of SMBs and multi-segment environments.
“As 10GbE moves out of the core server room and onto the work floor, the real bottleneck shifts from the endpoints to the uplinks and power,” said Ruby Chan, Product Manager at QNAP. “The QSW-M5218 Series brings 25GbE uplinks, L3 Lite routing, MC-LAG redundancy, and PoE power delivery together in a single switch, letting enterprises build a stable, scalable, and easy-to-manage high-speed backbone with a leaner investment.”
Key FeaturesL3 Lite Advanced Routing to Ease the Core Load:Built-in IPv4/IPv6 dual stack, DNS, static routing, DHCP server, SNTP, and inter-VLAN routing let the switch map inter-segment traffic paths locally, improving internal network efficiency and reducing the load on the core router.MC-LAG High Availability and LACP:Multi-Chassis Link Aggregation (MC-LAG) consolidates the links between multiple switches into a single logical connection, so the network keeps running even if some physical links fail. Paired with QNAP NAS High Availability (HA), it provides dual-layer protection across the storage and network layers, while Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) support increases throughput and connection reliability.Hardware-Level PTP and IGMP Snooping for Professional AV Synchronization:Support for IEEE 1588v2 PTP and Transparent Clock provides sub-microsecond time synchronization at the hardware level and compensates for switching latency. Together with IGMP Snooping, which precisely manages multiple multicast streams and prevents surplus traffic from saturating bandwidth, media servers, NAS, and video walls stay in frame-accurate synchronization in AVoIP environments.PoE Model for Leaner Cabling (QSW-M5218P-6F12T):The PoE version supplies up to 90 W per port and a total power budget of 470 W, fully powering as many as 12 PoE+ (30W) wireless access points or IP surveillance cameras, and can also drive high-power devices such as Wi-Fi 7 access points and PTZ cameras — with no need for extra power cabling or separate power injectors. VLAN isolation and 25GbE uplinks keep the backbone free of congestion when high-speed wireless traffic converges.Built-in Cybersecurity Ecosystem:Integrates with [4] ADRA NDR X Network Detection and Responseon QNAP NAS to proactively detect and isolate ransomware and abnormal traffic, and supports the [5] QNAP Airgap+ isolated backup solutionto reduce the risk of the backup environment being compromised in a network attack.QSS Pro Intelligent Management and AMIZcloud Centralized Cloud Control:Featuring an intuitive web GUI, QSS Pro (QNAP Switch System Pro) simplifies L2/L3 Lite management and online firmware updates. Through the [6] AMIZcloud cloud platform, it can monitor switches across multiple sites with no additional hardware or software, enabling remote IT troubleshooting while lowering operating costs.
