HUD OIG Announces Results of Operation Clean House: Multi-city Enforcement Initiative Results in 491 Arrests
ALEXANDRIA, Virginia – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Inspector General (HUD OIG) today announced the results of Operation Clean House, a multi-agency, multi-month law enforcement initiative targeting fugitives living in HUD-assisted housing.
Throughout 2026, HUD OIG Special Agents worked alongside the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) and state and local law enforcement partners in communities across the country. The operation resulted in 491 arrests, cities including - Memphis, Tennessee.; New York, New York; Newark, New Jersey; Chicago, Illinois; Los Angeles, California; Kansas City, Missouri.; Kansas City, Kansas.; New Orleans, Louisiana; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Cleveland, Ohio; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Columbus, Ohio and others.
Persons arrested included those wanted on outstanding felony warrants for serious offenses, including drug trafficking, weapons offenses, aggravated assault, fraud, rape, second-degree murder, sex offenses against children, and possession or manufacture of an incendiary device. In addition, 10 firearms were also seized during the operations.
“This year, we have made one thing unmistakably clear: HUD OIG has zero tolerance for individuals who threaten the safety of people residing in HUD-assisted housing, jeopardize the families who live there, or exploit the programs designed to serve them,” said Acting Inspector General Brian D. Harrison. “We have taken an aggressive approach to identifying and removing fugitives from these communities, and neighborhoods are safer because of it.”
