Case presentation:
Irene Cortese, MD Assistant Clinical Investigator and Director Experimental Immunotherapeutics Unit, Division of Neuroimmunology & Neurovirology National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke
Presenter: David Wendler, PhD Acting Chief Department of Bioethics, NIH Clinical Center
Lecture Summary: Current practice relies on loved ones to make treatment decisions for incapacitated patients. However, this approach often fails to provide treatment consistent with the patient’s preferences. It also places significant stress on their surrogates. One proposal to address these concerns is to use AI to predict patients’ treatment preferences. Could this approach work? If so, should we use it? Please join us to discuss these important questions. The lecture will be broadcast on NIH Videocast and archived for future viewing.
