Are Democrats botching the Cornell case now or did they botch it then? One can’t help but wonder if the public will ever get the full story of a scandal that appears to be confined entirely within the jurisdiction of one political party. Whatever one makes of this disturbing story, there does seem to be a rather large incentive for relevant officials not to find fault with any campus or law-enforcement policies associated with their partisan team. Kara Scannell reports for CNN: The New York attorney general’s office is close to naming external lawyers to handle the investigation into sexual assault allegations at Cornell University, officials close to the investigation said. The office has reached out to several experienced attorneys to bolster its team, CNN reported Tuesday. The search began Thursday after New York Gov. Kathy Hochul named New York Attorney General Letitia James a special prosecutor on the case, the officials said. At the time Hochul said she “lost faith” in Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten, who was overseeing the
investigation. Gov. Hochul’s crisis of faith must be painful indeed given how closely she has worked with Mr. Van Houten, a fellow Democrat, and how helpful he has been in promoting her agenda. Gov. Hochul’s office appealed to his authority in a May 2025 press release:
