This has already been a long and costly legal fight, and we’re counting on your help to ensure we have the funding to see it through.

Within days of the killing of Renee Nicole Good by masked immigration agents in January, The Intercept filed a Freedom of Information Act request demanding access to key documents and body camera footage related to the shooting.

Today, more than nine months later, the Trump regime is still refusing to hand over these records — as well as those connected to 11 other violent incidents.

So we’re dragging them to court.

ICE and the Department of Homeland Security have been caught in lie after lie about what happened that day in Minneapolis and in other shootings and assaults committed by immigration agents.

That’s why The Intercept just filed a lawsuit in federal court demanding that they comply with the law and give us the records we need to get to the truth.

But this has already been a long and costly legal fight, and we’re counting on your help to ensure we have the funding to see it through.

At least 61 people have died in ICE custody since President Donald Trump returned to office — and that’s not counting those killed on the street by federal immigration agents, like Renee Good, Alex Pretti, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, and Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero.

That’s why we’re using FOIA to force the Department of Homeland Security and ICE to release the documents and body camera footage that we need to debunk their lies.

Here’s the challenge: It can take months or even years to prevail in open records litigation. Most nonprofit outlets don’t have the needed resources — and many larger corporate outlets lose interest by the time the records are produced.

The Intercept will not back down — and thanks to the generosity of Intercept readers like you, we have the legal firepower to ensure that agencies actually hand over the footage and documents the public is entitled to see.

So we’re asking all of our readers: Will you donate $5 to The Intercept today?
