Alaska, Hawaiian Airlines donate to wildfire relief | American Airlines partners with DOT to tackle human trafficking | Southwest Airlines adds flights for football fans
Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have donated $100,000 to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and 5 million Mileage Plan miles to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts for the Los Angeles wildfires. The airlines are also matching customer donations of up to 5 million miles until Jan. 17.
American Airlines has joined the Blue Lightning Initiative during National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, partnering with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to train aviation personnel in identifying and reporting human trafficking. "The Blue Lightning Initiative is a key element in the federal government’s fight against the scourge of human trafficking," said American's Vice President of Corporate Security Gary Tomasulo. "American has long partnered with law enforcement to help fight human trafficking, and we are proud to deepen our partnership by joining the initiative."
Southwest Airlines is adding flights between Ohio and Atlanta for the College Football National Championship game between Ohio State and Notre Dame. The airline has added a flight from Cleveland to Atlanta and two return flights, as well as five extra flights from Columbus to Atlanta and six return flights.
Atlas Air has launched a weekly cargo route from Maastricht Aachen Airport (MST) in the Netherlands to Asia for MSC Air Cargo. The first flight, operated by a Boeing 777 freighter, marked the beginning of this service, which will transport e-commerce and general cargo.
Delta Air Lines and Uber have announced a multiyear partnership launching this spring. Delta SkyMiles members can earn miles through Uber rides and Uber Eats orders, while Uber users benefit from enhanced pickup and drop-off at Delta hubs.
Airbus has partnered with the Minnesota Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Hub, joining companies such as Bank of America, Ecolab and Cargill. "Airbus brings significant expertise and credibility to this partnership," says Greater MSP Partnership CEO Peter Frosch. "Its investment confirms that decarbonizing air travel is a global imperative, and that the MN SAF Hub is leading the world in pioneering and scaling the development of sustainable aviation fuel."
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has introduced two grants to support the development of aviation professionals. The Aircraft Pilots Workforce Development Grants will fund students training to become aircraft and unmanned aircraft systems pilots, while the Aviation Maintenance Technical Workers Workforce Development Grants will support aspiring aviation maintenance technicians. Eligible organizations can receive up to $1 million each fiscal year, with applications due Feb. 5.
