Survey: RTD coffee, energy drink consumption growing

Coffee remains the top source of caffeine in the US, accounting for 69% of intake, up 15% from a decade ago, according to a survey published in Food and Chemical Toxicology. Ready-to-drink coffee and specialty coffee have seen significant growth, contributing to the increased caffeine intake from coffee. The survey notes a decline in tea drinking and a significant rise in energy drink consumption, with energy drinks now contributing 6% of caffeine intake. Overall, fewer people are consuming caffeinated beverages, but those who do are consuming more.

Preme has relaunched with a focus on shelf-stable drink mixes for gut health, moving away from its original cold-chain pudding line. The new products include Gentle Prebiotics, Kiwi Lemonade and Hot Cocoa, each targeting different aspects of gut health. Founder Xeba Zareie aims to make the brand appealing to Gen Z and millennials, with plans to test the products online before retail expansion.
