Good morning, DMV. It’s Tuesday, Jan. 14. Often, we forget to play tourist in our own cities, so on Saturday, my family and I went on a tour of the U.S. Capitol. We’ve often run, biked and strolled past it, but we never went inside until this weekend. I could feel the weight of history inside the building — places I’d only seen in books or in the news. The tour brought us inside the Capitol Rotunda, where just last week Jimmy Carter was lying in state. We passed the office of the Speaker of the House. We saw plaques, paintings and statues that tell the story of our country. It was fascinating. And next week, it will be the backdrop for the inauguration. President-elect Donald Trump’s swearing-in on Monday means Inauguration Day falls on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. How do you feel about those days coinciding? Are you planning to do anything special on that day to honor King’s legacy? Are you planning to attend events that commemorate both days? We’d like to hear your perspective. Email postlocal@washpost.com with your thoughts, and please include your full name and phone number so we can contact you if we need more information.
