Aviation organizations, including the General Aviation Manufacturers Association and National Business Aviation Association, are urging the Senate to promptly confirm Sean Duffy as transportation secretary for the Department of Transportation, noting his understanding of aviation priorities and legislative skills. Duffy's hearing with the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation is scheduled for Jan. 15. "We look forward to learning more about his vision for the department, especially as it pertains to aviation safety and innovation, economic growth and the implementation of the latest FAA reauthorization law," said GAMA President Pete Bunce.

Hermeus has opened the first phase of its High Enthalpy Air-Breathing Test (HEAT) facility at Cecil Airport in Jacksonville, Fla., to address a dearth of hypersonic test infrastructure. The facility has already completed trials on a Pratt & Whitney F100 engine, which will power Hermeus' test vehicles. “In just three months since breaking ground, HEAT has come online and is positioned to unlock low-cost, high-capability propulsion testing that will support the delivery of hypersonic aircraft before the end of the decade,” said Hermeus co-founder and CEO A.J. Piplica.

Melody Steiner, 14, has long aspired to become a pilot, driven by her desire to assist people through aviation, and has completed her first solo flight. Her dream is to fly for Samaritan's Purse, a Christian humanitarian aid organization, allowing her to travel and help those in need. Despite financial challenges, she funded her flight lessons by selling cotton candy, demonstrating her determination to achieve her goals.

Students at Alder Middle School in Fontana, Calif., recently explored aviation careers through a partnership with NextUp Aviation, which brought a 36-foot mobile flight simulator to the school.
