February
March
Dear Brookfield Community,
We hope this letter finds you well and ready for a relaxing weekend. We are thrilled to share that this week was filled with exciting learning and joyful moments for our students.
We were especially proud to see Brookfield featured on the FCPS Facebook and Instagram pages! If you haven't already, please take a moment to check out the delightful video of Ms. Lee and Ms. Robinson sharing their enthusiasm with our students through song and dance on a Friday afternoon. It's a perfect example of the vibrant and engaging learning environment we strive to create at Brookfield.
We want to emphasize the importance of attendance and fostering a strong sense of belonging for all our Broncos. We truly cherish the opportunities to connect with our students during dismissal and reconnect at arrival each morning. These interactions, alongside the wonderful connections built within their learning environments, are invaluable in building a supportive and positive school community. We see students collaborating, helping each other, and forming strong bonds that enhance their learning experience every day.
Please remember a few important dates:
-
Monday, February 24: This will be a 3-hour early release day.
-
Thursday, February 27 at 6:30 p.m.: We will be holding our pre-construction community meeting in the cafeteria. This is a vital opportunity to learn more about upcoming construction plans and ask any questions you may have. We encourage everyone to attend. Translation services will be provided.
We wish you a wonderful and restful weekend. We are eagerly looking forward to welcoming our Broncos back to school on Monday morning, ready for another week of learning and growth.
Sincerely,
Lesley Hassen, Principal
Margaret Sisler, Assistant Principal
Anthony Ramakis, Assistant Principal

Classroom Spotlight: Mrs. Plum’s Class
Mrs. Plum’s students took part in a powerful lesson on Juneteenth and Independence Day. Students engaged in a meaningful compare-and-contrast discussion, reflecting on the historical significance of Juneteenth and the Fourth of July.
These conversations help our students connect history to the present, fostering critical thinking and deeper understanding.
It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!
Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events — including orientation — between January and April. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources on hand that they need on the first day of school.
After determining which school their child will attend, families should prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms, details can be found on the FCPS kindergarten registration webpage. FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, visit the kindergarten registration webpage.
You can schedule an in-person appointment to complete the registration by emailing Hilda Gomez-SIA higomezperez@fcps.edu or calling 703-814-8705 to set it up.
Appointment times are available:
- Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays - 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
VDH Immunization Packets for Rising 7th Graders
As required by the Code of Virginia, parents or legal guardians need to provide proof of immunizations for their child to attend public school. All students entering seventh grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations:
- Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap) given at age 7 or older.
- Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) given at age 10 or older.
- A complete series of 2 doses of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
- After reviewing educational materials approved by the Board of Health, the parent or guardian, at the parents/guardians sole discretion, may elect for the child not to receive the HPV vaccine.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with their child’s health care provider now to avoid the rush this summer. If your child does not have a health care provider, please visit the FCPS Immunizations Resource page to find out where to get an immunization.
Please review the Virginia Department of Health Information Packet for more information on rising 7th grade immunization requirements.
