Fair Housing Month is celebrated every April to remember the Fair Housing Act, which became law in 1968.
This month reminds us that the fight against unfair treatment in housing is still important. The Fair Housing Act makes it illegal to treat people unfairly when they want to rent or buy a home, obtain a home loan, or if they are prevented from accessing information about homes for sale or rent. This law helps make sure everyone has the same chances to find a place to live and is treated fairly during the whole process.

Saturday, April 26, 10 a.m.-Noon
Fairfax County public safety agencies, along with the Arc of Northern Virginia and the Northern Virginia Resource Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing, are hosting a special event called Fairfax County Unified Response Day: Bridging First Responders and All Abilities. This event is designed to help people with disabilities and other needs feel safe, confident, and ready for emergencies.
At this hands-on, interactive event, individuals with disabilities and their families can meet and practice with first responders in a safe and relaxed setting. They will go through real-life scenarios like traffic stops, car accidents, medical emergencies, and fire rescues. This helps both the community and first responders learn how to support each other better.
