Orange Hunt News We HOOT
April 2, 2025

Congratulations Future Problem Solvers!

Orange Hunt Future Problem Solving teams have been working all year on Food Security, Rising Sea Levels and Industrial Agriculture to try to qualify for the FPS Virginia State Bowl. Two teams qualified to attend the State Bowl this past weekend in Norfolk, VA. They prepared for the competition by meeting after school researching the topic of Nanotechnology. They went down to Norfolk and our 5th grade team of Luke Brown, Aurelia Case, Jonathan Clapp and Leila Murphy Gomez won 2nd place in the Presentation of Action Plan. Our 6th grade team of Evan Daffan, Andrew Hoyle, Katherine James and Amelia Richardson won 1st place in the Presentation of Action Plan and 2nd place in GIPS Competition. Their hard work, focus and collaboration skills were evident, and we are so proud of each of them.

No Cell Phone/Smart Watches Policy

This continues to be an on going concern that is impacting learning at Orange Hunt. It is important to remind your child that they may not use their cell phones / smart watches during school hours.  Devices should either be in "airplane" mode, parents set watches to School mode, or turned off during the hours of 8:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Students should not be texting their parents and/or friends during the school day.  We ask that parents also not text or call their child during the school day. If students are using devices they will be taken to the office for a parent to pick up.  Thank you for your partnership in helping us support student learning.

In case of illness, students need to be seen in the health room and the health room aide or public health nurse will call you if your child needs to be taken home.

If you need to reach your child during the school day, please contact the main office at 703-913-6800 who will send your message to your child

Review FCPS policy by grade level here

Notes from the Health Room

Please remind your child that if they are feeling unwell in any way, they should ask to go to the health room. Students should not contact their parents through personal cell phones/smart watches to be picked up when they are feeling sick - the health room will call you if necessary.

If your student is absent due to illness, please leave a detailed message on the attendance line about their illness including any diagnosis (Flu, Strep, Pneumonia, etc.) OR symptoms: Fever (include if they have a sore throat and/or cough), Allergy symptoms, Upset Stomach (please include if the student has been vomiting or has diarrhea), Headache, etc. Our Nurse uses this information to track illnesses across grades. Any questions? Email our school nurse, Kimber Tritten, at katritten@fcps.edu.
