Tech Across the Globe

Apple’s tariff pain: US tariffs announced by President Donald Trump would mean a 54% levy on China, which remains the heart of the iPhone maker’s manufacturing supply chain. Other countries now building Apple products, including India, Vietnam and Thailand, also were hit with new tariffs. The news battered Apple shares in late trading.

Switch 2 launch: Nintendo unveiled the Switch 2 game console, with plans to sell it in the US for $450 — a hefty price increase over the $300 original. Like the first generation, released in 2017, the Switch 2 has removable controllers and a standalone dock, allowing it to double as a mobile and home gaming device. It’s also larger with updated graphics, a new chat feature and a separate video camera.

Under-the-radar “warriors”: North Korean IT workers are increasingly posing as remote freelancers from other countries to infiltrate European companies, putting them at risk of espionage, data theft and disruption. The workers, who refer to themselves as “warriors,” secure these roles to generate revenue for the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, according to research by Google Threat Intelligence Group.

Revalued

Artificial intelligence coding startup Replit is in talks with investors for a new funding round that would nearly triple its valuation to $3 billion. The startup is one of several companies making AI-powered coding tools that can help developers work more efficiently — or let regular people build software without much specialized knowledge.
