Recent Pilot Safety Projects:
-
The County will launch a Downhill Protected Bike Lane / Right Hook Conflict Safety Project Pilot in spring/summer 2025 to help reduce conflicts between drivers making right turns and bicyclists traveling downhill. Look out for details in next month’s newsletter!
The goal of the pilot is to reduce crash risks caused by uncontrolled left turn and through movements over multiple lanes of high-speed traffic on Route 50. Based on the results of this pilot project, Arlington and VDOT may consider implementing this treatment along Route 50 before construction begins on the permanent safety project in 2030. Look out for installation this spring.

Christine Baker, Vision Zero Program Manager, and Mary Dallao, WalkArlington Program Manager, led participants on a guided walk from Courthouse to Rosslyn, highlighting a variety of safety improvements the County made along this busy corridor. All event attendees received a free Vision Zero T-shirt featuring the County’s safety mascot, the Cautionary Snail!
