UPDATED (4/23/25) – The Arlington County Police Department has completed a comprehensive investigation into the January 27, 2025, fatal crash on Wilson Boulevard. The investigation, which included an extensive review of evidence, witness interviews and crash scene reconstruction, supported the conclusion the driver of the pickup truck experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash. Following consultation with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, criminal charges will not be sought against the driver of the pickup truck.
UPDATED (1/28/25) – The Arlington County Police Department continues to investigate yesterday’s fatal vehicle crash along Wilson Boulevard.
The deceased has been identified as Xuewei He, 32, of McLean, VA.
The preliminary investigation indicates that in addition to the fatal crash, the driver of the pickup truck struck a vehicle at the intersection of Wilson Boulevard and N. George Mason Drive and struck a second vehicle traveling eastbound on Wilson Boulevard. Additionally, two vehicles collided at Wilson Boulevard at N. Wakefield Street while attempting to avoid the pickup truck. No injuries were reported as a result of these crashes.
Officers traveling westbound on Wilson Boulevard were stopped at the traffic light at N. George Mason Drive when the pickup truck proceeded through the intersection at a high rate of speed into the wrong lanes of travel. The officers made a u-turn and began driving on eastbound Wilson Boulevard to further investigate. The fatal crash occurred prior to the officers arriving in the area. In accordance with department policy, the officers were not in pursuit of the vehicle.
Charges are pending against the pickup driver and he remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition. ARLINGTON, Va. (Published 1/27/25) – The Arlington County Police Department is investigating a fatal crash along Wilson Boulevard that occurred on the afternoon of January 27, 2025.
At approximately 2:40 p.m., police and fire were dispatched to the report of a crash with injuries involving multiple vehicles. The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Wilson Boulevard at a high rate of speed when they struck a white sedan as it turned onto Wilson Boulevard from N. Vermont Street. As a result of the impact from the initial crash, the vehicles struck two additional vehicles stopped at the traffic light at Wilson Boulevard and N. Glebe Road.
The drivers of the pickup truck and the sedan were transported to an area hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the sedan, an adult female, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver of the pickup truck, an adult male, remains hospitalized with critical injuries.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family.
