As prized prospect Roman Anthony bangs ever more loudly on the door to the majors, it’s clear the Red Sox will make changes in their outfield at some point this season, probably more sooner than later.
Ceddanne Rafaela is intent on proving he belongs.
The 24-year-old center fielder had a .467 OPS over his first 13 games this season. The nine games that followed produced three extra-base hits, four RBIs, five runs, and an .855 OPS.
“The work he put in during the offseason was real,” said manager Alex Cora, who pointed out that Rafaela has six walks already this season after drawing only 15 in 571 plate appearances last season. “He’s in a much better spot.”
