April 2025

The Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) spring National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will be held on Saturday, April 26. During the last National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, held in October 2024, 629,953 pounds of prescription drugs were collected nationwide, adding to the more than 19.2 million pounds collected since the beginning of the program. In this month’s News and Highlights from Across the Agency, Chief Penn encourages the community to take this dedicated day as an opportunity to clear out your medicine cabinets and safely dispose of unwanted, unused or expired prescription medications in one of Arlington’s four permanent drug-take back boxes. The publication also features investigative highlights, crime and crash statistics, community engagement efforts and department news.

ACPD and Community Partners Host Another Successful ‘Safety Fair with Practice Crisis Scenarios’ event!
Thank you to all who attended the ‘Safety Fair with Practice Crisis Scenarios’ event on Saturday, April 5. ACPD and the Arc of Northern Virginia were proud to host persons with disabilities and their families for an afternoon of interacting with police and fire personnel the way they would out in the community in the event they become lost or need assistance. We’d also like to give a special shout to the Arlington County Fire Department, Arlington County Sheriff’s Office, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department and the Arlington Community Emergency Response Team for their attendance at the event.

ACPD Participates in the 2025 Spring Street Smart Campaign
Through May 4, ACPD is participating in the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments 2025 Spring Street Smart Campaign. The campaign focuses on educating drivers, pedestrians, shared micro-mobility device users and bicyclists about traffic laws and how to safely share our roadways. The campaign aims to reduce the number of traffic related crashes and injuries on our roadways by identifying and changing unsafe behavior patterns through a two-pronged approach of education and enforcement. Officers from the Special Operations Section and Patrol Section conduct high-visibility education and enforcement activations throughout the campaign to remind the public that the safety of everyone on the road depends on the cooperation of drivers, bicyclists, shared micro-mobility device users and pedestrians daily.

Connect with the Community Engagement Division
The Community Engagement Division (CED) works across Arlington to build and maintain strong partnerships with those we serve through proactive engagement. The CED is comprised of three units – Business Outreach, Youth Outreach and Community Outreach – which work with their respective stakeholders to address public safety concerns and further the Department's efforts to improve transportation safety and implement crime prevention and control initiatives.
