Hello Bull Run families,
Whether you took a family trip or enjoyed some time at home, I hope you all had a fantastic Spring Break! It is hard to believe that we are closing in on the last weeks of the school year, but we still have more work and goals to accomplish. We have some fun things planned too!
Next week begins state testing (SOL assessments) in grades 3-6. Families, if you could read the following message to your children on my behalf (and feel free to use a similar message when speaking with your children about testing), I would greatly appreciate it:
While it is important to study and put in maximum effort, it is important to note that we are so proud of our students already. These tests are just one way to show what you know—but YOU are amazing in so many ways that no test can measure.
Next week we have another great Spirit Week planned to celebrate Earth Day, as well as gear up for our first annual STEAM Night (see image below)!
Several Bull Run students are going to be featured in the Centreville Pyramid Art Show, taking place TONIGHT from 5:30-7:30pm at Centreville High School. This year they are hoping to create a more interactive experience for guests while still showcasing all of the students’ amazing artwork. There will be a make and take artwork station, a mural scavenger hunt, face painting, small group ensemble music performed by CVHS students, and a food truck on site for families to make an evening out of the event.
REMINDERS:
Our 20-day Attendance Challenge is off to a great start! Let's keep it up and earn some extra recess and ice pops!

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

- Schedule an appointment.

Learn how to begin the online registration process.
When registering, parents/caregivers will need to create or log in to an existing SIS ParentVUE account.

Increasing Access to Middle School Algebra 1
FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan Goal 3: Academic Growth and Excellence places a focus on successful completion of Algebra 1 by eighth grade. To increase access to Algebra 1 for middle school students, the school division has decided to streamline the criteria for taking Algebra 1 Honors in seventh grade.
With the simplified criteria, Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test (IAAT) scores are no longer a prerequisite when selecting either Mathematics 7 Honors or Algebra 1 Honors. Although it is not a requirement for advanced math, families may still use the test scores to help decide which level of mathematics their child signs up for.
Families of students who took the IAAT this winter will receive their score report by the end of this month. Students who were scheduled for the IAAT but did not get to complete the test will have the chance to opt-in for a makeup test at the end of the year. Parents/caregivers will receive information about this makeup testing opportunity.
Additional information and copies of upcoming family communication can be found on the IAAT webpage.
