We’ve been testing robot vacuums since 2012. This is our favorite one. |

While robot vacuums can’t fully replace traditional plug-ins, they really are feats of engineering. Even a basic bot can keep your floors tidy, handling pet hair and dust adeptly. And top-tier models take it to the next level: They can map your home, schedule cleanings, and even respond to voice commands.
We’ve been testing robot vacuums for over 10 years — putting everything from cheap, aimless bumblers to ultra-sophisticated machines through the wringer. Our favorite is a great navigator that avoids most obstacles while keeping on top of scattered debris. And (drumroll, please) it empties itself.

The most common mistake people make when setting up their audio equipment? Placing their speakers in the wrong spot. This week on The Wirecutter Show, senior staff writer and resident audio expert Brent Butterworth shares some simple hacks to improve your speaker setup. For smaller portable Bluetooth speakers, placing them against a wall or in a corner can help boost the bass. And avoid stacking bigger two-speaker setups on top of each other. Instead, decide on the spot you’re most likely to be listening from, and place the speakers equidistant from your head, one to the right, the other to the left.
Your daily deal: This very cute hand-beaded shoulder bag (that we really want) |

One of our experts’ favorite gifts for girlfriends, this hand-beaded shoulder bag is more akin to artwork or jewelry than a thing to lug stuff around in. Yet it still includes practical details, like an interior zip pouch and a magnetic back pocket. Simply put: It’s very cute, and this deal on it is very good.
