Lismore cinema to return: The new owner of the Lismore cinema says it will reopen in time for Christmas. The building was severely damaged in the 2022 floods and had to be stripped of fittings. Owner Luke Mackay says he's forging ahead with plans to rebuild a more flood-resilient facility.

Police investigate assaults: Two men in aged their 60s are recovering after being bashed and stabbed at a unit in Evans Head last Friday, April 18. Police allege a group of three people entered the unit on Heath Street about 6pm and demanded money. The ABC understands a 65-year-old man recovering from cancer treatment was hit around the head and suffered injuries that required an overnight stay in hospital. Police also say a 67-year-old was stabbed in the leg, requiring hospitalisation. Police say the trio fled with a wallet, and an investigation is underway.
