Message from Mr. Greata

One of the many reasons Carter G. Woodson High School is such a special place is that every student can find their own space to thrive. With countless opportunities to explore passions and develop talents, our students continue to amaze us week after week.

This past Wednesday, I had the pleasure of attending our Music Sampler concert, which featured both a group performance by the Bickeled Beats and solo performances from the Music Sampler classes and Music Partnership Program. The performances were varied, creative, and exceptional—the level of talent on display was truly astounding. Thank you to Lonnie Bickel for your support of these extraordinary students.

We also want to express our sincere gratitude to our Student Services team, who have worked tirelessly over the past two weeks to administer 2,640 AP exams. This incredible effort was coordinated by Kathleen Crosson, Debbie Glover, Jamie Korpacz, and Pam Todd, and supported by our entire counseling department, and parent volunteers. Administering AP exams is a massive undertaking, and we are thankful for the teamwork that made it possible. Your support of our students’ academic excellence is deeply appreciated.

Congratulations to the following students who received Cappie Award nominations for their outstanding work in our production of Lear. These nominations are a tremendous honor, and we look forward to celebrating the results at this year’s Cappies Gala on June 2nd.

  • Comic Actor in a Female Role in a Play -  Juliana Gurrola
  • Supporting Actor in a Male Role in a Play -  Aiden Brennan

Looking ahead, we’re excited for a weekend full of community and celebration! Join us Saturday morning for our annual Woodson 5K Community Run/Walk, starting at 8:30 AM on campus. There’s still time to sign up! Then, on Saturday evening, we’ll host our Talent Show at 6:30 PM in the auditorium. Tickets are available online or at the door—don’t miss it!

Today, our student-athletes continue their postseason journey with district semifinals and finals in both tennis and boys soccer. For schedules and updates, visit woodsonsports.com.

Finally, this week we shared several important communications about graduation, final exams, and other key end-of-year events. These emails include printable PDFs with schedules and dates to help you stay organized. Please be sure to check your email so you’re aware of all upcoming activities.

Reminder: There will be no school for any student on Tuesday, June 10, as we celebrate the Class of 2025 with our graduation ceremony.

Thank you, as always, for your support of our students and school community!

Required Immunizations for Rising 12th Graders

Additional immunizations are required for students entering 12th grades.

  • All students entering 12th grade are to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) prior to the beginning of school.
    • To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 16 or older.

Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and healthcare providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time. Additional resources are available on the FCPS Immunization Resources webpage and the Fairfax County Health Department.
