A Message from Principal Goldstein

Sam Goldstein

Dear Fairview Families,

Our students have been hard at work taking their SOL tests, and we are incredibly proud of the focus, determination, and effort they’ve shown throughout the testing season.

As we approach the final weeks of the school year, we encourage all students to stay engaged, continue working hard, and finish the year strong. Every day counts, and we are committed to making the most of this time celebrating growth, building lasting memories, and reinforcing the skills and values that help our students succeed.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Samantha Goldstein

3HR ER post

May 19, 2025 - 3 Hour Early Release at 12:55PM!

For the upcoming early release on Monday, May 19, your child will be dismissed using the indicated dismissal route in Pick Up Patrol. If your child stayed on April 28th for the early release, we have defaulted their plan to stay again for this early release unless you notified us otherwise (this includes students going to SACC).

We will be sending your child at 12:55 via whatever is indicated in Pick Up Patrol. If your child needs to stay until 3:55, it should be reflected in Pick Up Patrol already as we have entered it on your behalf. If you need to request a change to have your child stay until 3:55, or leave at 12:55pm, please contact FairviewESCommunications@fcps.edu. Pick Up Patrol will be locked for changes from Friday May 16th at 4:15pm until 4:15pm on Monday, May 19th.

Thank you for your cooperation in making sure all students are dismissed correctly and get home safely.

25-26 Class Placement Surveys Due May 30th!

As we continue planning for the 2025–2026 school year, we welcome your input regarding your child’s needs as we thoughtfully build class communities. If you have specific considerations you'd like us to keep in mind for your child’s placement, please complete the form linked here by May 30th.

While we’re not able to accommodate requests for specific teachers, your insights help us better understand what kind of environment your child will thrive in.

The information you share will go directly to Principal Goldstein, and will be thoughtfully reviewed by staff during the placement process. To ensure we can take your input into account, please submit the form promptly.

A few important reminders:

  • Please keep all comments positive and focused on your child’s needs and learning style.
  • This form will be shared with school staff involved in the placement process.
  • Class groupings are designed to include a mix of students with a range of strengths, needs, personalities, and learning profiles.

Thank you for partnering with us to support your child’s success!

Update on FCPS Boundary Review

In July 2024, the Fairfax County School Board voted to begin a review and update of the county’s school boundary policy. As part of this initiative, the Board established the Superintendent's Boundary Advisory Committee, which includes parents, caregivers, and community members from each of FCPS’ 24 high school pyramids. The committee also includes school-based and division administrators, teachers, operational staff, and other community representatives.

The committee has been actively meeting throughout 2024 and 2025 to explore ways to better align school boundaries with changing geographic and demographic needs.

Representing the Robinson Pyramid on the committee is Sunnie Salvia, a Fairview and Robinson parent with 4 children: 5th grade, 7th grade, and 10th grade.

At its most recent meeting, the committee discussed the topic of “split-feeder” elementary schools—schools that feed into more than one middle school. While Fairview is not a split-feeder school, there are current discussions regarding adjusting the Union Mill Elementary boundary that could potentially impact Fairview families.

We encourage you to visit the FCPS website to review the meeting agenda, presentation slides, and related materials - paying particular attention to the slide with proposed changes for Fairview (specifically related to the Martin’s Landing neighborhood-slide18).

If you have feedback on the proposed changes affecting Fairview, please reach out to Sunnie at fcpsboundary.robinson.2@gmail.com with your comments or concerns.

Please Note: Any proposals discussed by the Advisory Committee are not final and have not been approved or rejected by the School Board. The Advisory Committee’s work will continue through January 2026, so it is unlikely that any changes impacting Fairview  will take effect in the upcoming school year.

Speech Pathologist Day!

Megan McGurgan

Fairview Elementary proudly recognizes Speech Pathologist Day on May 18th and the exceptional contributions of our speech-language pathologist, Megan McGurgan. Megan's expertise and compassionate approach provide crucial support to students facing communication challenges, fostering their academic and social growth. We extend our sincere gratitude to Megan for her dedication and positive impact on our school community.

Attendance Reminders!

Please remember the importance of late-year attendance for school success.  While we acknowledge that many students may be experiencing year-end burnout, it is important that all students need to be in school.  On time.  Everyday.

Last Day of School Attendance

All students are expected to be in attendance on the last day of school, Wednesday, June 11, 2025.  Please let us know if your child will not be at Fairview on June 11, 2025. You can always contact us at 703-503-3700 or email us at FairviewESAttendance@fcps.edu.

Dismissal Schedule for the Last Day of School

On the last day of school, Wednesday, June 11, school will be dismissed at 1:55 PM.

Phase 2 Community Boundary Review Meetings

Families, staff, and community members can explore and visualize potential boundary scenarios using a customized Boundary Explorer Tool. The tool will be accessible from the FCPS website. You are also invited to participate in another series of community meetings in order to review and reflect on the initial draft scenarios before the start of summer break:

Click the date to register. Each meeting will be hybrid, meaning that you may attend in person or via Zoom. Childcare for in-person participants and language interpretation/translation for all participants will be available as needed. Another round of community meetings will be held in the fall.

Visit FCPS’ Comprehensive Boundary Review page for more information.
