Fifth grade students enjoy hands-on learning during their science laboratory session on cloud formation and precipitation.
North Springfield has been a buzz of activity this May. We started the month with our Top 10 Run with our fastest girls and boys running a mile around the track and being cheered on by the entire school. Thank you, Ms. Metz for your enthusiasm and coaching of our Run Club. The school community came out for the School's Spring Fair with games, food and fun! Standing ovation to Ms. Mallon and all the volunteers who made that event happen. On Monday May 12, students engaged in Career Day! Students enjoyed meeting professionals from many walks of life, including a Beekeeper. On Wednesday, our Kindergarteners went to Wolf Trap and enjoyed the Children’s Theater. On Thursday, Kindergarteners were treated to Fairy Tale characters live and in person. Shhh... don't tell anyone but the Fairy Tale characters were teachers from all grades dressed as their favorite character, so fun. Friday capped off the week with the 4th/5th Grade Dance and Social. Thank you to all parents and staff who organized the dance.
This week, SOLs end on Tuesday, May 20 with makeups and retakes until the end of the month. Our student musicians showcase their talents with their Spring Concert on Wednesday night. We end the month with the True Book Fair where students get free books. It’s hard to believe we only have 17 more days of school, just 3 more Fridays! Let’s enjoy every minute. Be sure to stop by for any upcoming end of year grade level events and celebrations. Thank you for your support!

North Springfield Elementary School will have a school-wide Title 1 Program starting in the 2025-2026 school year. At the PTA meeting on Tuesday, May 13, parents heard about all aspects of being a Title 1 School from Ms. Ferguson, Interim Principal, Dr. Courtney White, Senior Grants Manager, and JoVon Rogers, Region 6 Executive Principal. Click to review the PowerPoint presentation from May 13’s meeting. Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding (Title I dollars) to supplement the school’s existing programs. Federal program funding provides all children significant opportunities to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps. Schools are identified for Title I funds based on the percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price meals based on the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). The objectives for a Title 1 School in FCPS are to:
- develop students’ literacy skills and communication,
- develop students’ mathematical skills and problem-solving,
- promote critical and creative thinking in all content areas,
- foster resiliency and goal setting, and
- encourage collaboration and family engagement.
Schools spend Title 1 Funds on:
- Staffing (for example: Resource Teachers, Intervention & Enrichment Teachers, Additional Counselors)
- Professional Learning for Staff
- Instructional Materials
- Family Engagement
- After School Activities
North Springfield will use its funding for the 2025-2026 school year on a mathematics intervention teacher and Science-Technology-Engineering-Art-Mathematics (STEAM) teacher. Click for more information about Title 1 Schools in Fairfax County Public Schools.
Attendance Matters!
Let's Finish the School Year Strong!
Although the end of the school year is approaching, our students still need to attend school regularly.
Attending school even if your student arrives late is valuable for their academic and social success at school. Please encourage your student to arrive on time every day and maintain regular attendance until the last day of school.
Attendance has an effect on student performance and on school accreditation. See how to:
- Check your child’s attendance record.
- Help your student stay engaged at school.
- Report future absences.
- Understand the FCPS school calendar.
Learn more about attendance resources.
North Springfield students had the opportunity to participate in Career Day. Many students discovered new career paths and professions. Here's a group of 2nd grade students learning about what it takes to be a beekeeper.
Career Day is an event where students can learn about different careers and industries. A variety of guest speakers shared their experiences, education, and skills needed for success. Students were able to engage, ask questions, and make real-world connections in their classrooms. A BIG thank you to our school counselors, Mrs. Mrowka and Mrs. Kirsch who for organizating Career Day. Round of applause to Mrs. Kirsch for arranging the volunteers and creating the schedule.
