Principal's Message

Hello, Scottie families!

What an incredible week!  We enjoyed so many special events this week! We had the pleasure of hearing and seeing our students perform during our day and evening band, strings & chorus concerts.  As as a promise from the funds raised during the spring PTO Read-a-Thon, administrators had to work from the roof on Tuesday, followed by our schoolwide dance party and "silly string the administrators" on Wednesday.  Great fun in celebration of the money raised for a great cause!

The last week of the year is finally upon us, and it is packed with grade level parties and end of the year special events, including 6th grade promotion on Tuesday, June 10.  See below for 6th grade promotion details!

A reminder that the last day of school is Wednesday, June 11, and we have a 2-hour early dismissal at 1:15 PM that day.  Have a great last weekend before the end of the school year!

Updates

Sixth Grade Promotion Ceremony

Due to space constraints, we will be hosting our 6th grade promotion ceremony in two different locations:  9 AM (Koehler & C. Chung’s classes) in the cafeteria and 9:15 AM (J. Cheung, Vericker, & Sorenson's classes) in the gym. Please be mindful that there will be seating available for two family members per student, with limited extra seats for others.  We are excited to celebrate our 6th graders promotion to middle school!  This is a special day for our 6th grade students and families, and we look forward to recognizing them on Tuesday, June 10!

Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders

Additional immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grades:

  • All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations before the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
    • To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age seven or older.
    • To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
    • As a parent/guardian, you may decide not to have your child receive the HPV vaccination. If that is the case, the school does not require documentation.
  • All students entering 12th grade are to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) before the beginning of school.
    • To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 16 or older.

Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and health care providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time.

Local immunization clinics and additional resources are available on the FCPS Immunization Resources webpage and from the Fairfax County Health Department
