I swear I didn’t mean to become an AI reporter. Here are your thoughts on AI-narrated audiobooks.
Jonathan S. wrote: “When an experienced voice actor reads a script, a novel, a shopping list, they add something of their own or a little nuance that they, the director, the producer feels will add to the presentation of the story. Sure AI can do that and maybe even more, but AI has no soul, its memories are not its own. There is no reason to listen to a bot unless they’re reciting a recipe or instructions or anything that requires minimal thought and no interpretation. We may not hear the difference, but we will miss the inflections, the pauses, the tone, that comes from a live person, a professional actor, the author reading and feeling the importance of the words and thoughts.”
Peter H. wrote: “As a totally blind person, I have used AI as both a (computer) screen reader and a book reader for years. Yes, you can tell the difference, and I do prefer a human voice; but if it comes down to either using AI or not getting information in a timely manner, I will always choose AI.”
Kris H. wrote: “Makes me want to scream. The creators are thieves. I will not participate. That's how I feel about it.”
See you next week!
