FINDING PRIDE IN A DIVIDED AMERICA

Alternate text

Welcome to a special edition of the MSNBC Daily newsletter. This year, things feel different for America’s generations of LGBTQ activists. Donald Trump is back in the White House, where he’s made clear that the fight for equality is far from over. In this moment, what does it mean to resist? How does it feel to fight the same battles we’ve waged for decades? What does it mean to seek joy and community when the U.S. administration continues to roll back basic, hard-won rights?

This five-part series explores these questions and more. Noor Noman shares his experience as a trans person medically transitioning under a Trump presidency. Eugene Daniels underlines the urgency and importance of fighting for trans rights in this moment. Louisiana Rep. Troy Carter dives into his state’s efforts to roll back marriage equality. Katelyn Burns reflects on corporations pulling their Pride sponsorships this year and Alex Berg dissects why Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s “Make America Healthy Again” message rings especially hollow to folks across the LGBTQ community.

By sharing their stories, these authors affirm that while resistance may look different this year, our resolve, and hope for a better future, is steadfast.
