Did you know that the World Cup and the "FIFA Club World Cup" are different events? I didn't.

In fact, I suspect I wouldn't even know that the latter exists had it not been for our exceedingly humiliating president. That guy was apparently at Sunday's final game at MetLife Stadium, where he reminded the world that, above all, Donald Trump is an ass. Here's my colleague Tim Murphy:

On Sunday, after the soccer tournament came to an end, Trump even crashed the trophy presentation at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to join the victorious players of Chelsea FC as they lifted the prize on the field. The gesture was Trumpian in its extreme—gifting to someone else a trophy that was never his.

That wasn't all.

He was booed in the stadium before the match. After watching the final from a luxury suite with Attorney General Pam Bondi, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, and media mogul Rupert Murdoch, Trump lingered on the field until the victors wondered what was going on. “I thought he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay,” Chelsea’s Reece James told reporters afterward.

What a sight.

THIS IS READER-SUPPORTED JOURNALISM

Hard-hitting, in-depth investigative reporting is expensive—that’s why more and more corporate news sources are slashing it from their budgets. But Mother Jones is a nonprofit. We dig it, because it’s our mission. Of course, that also means we need to directly raise the resources it takes to keep our journalism alive.

There’s only one way for that to happen, and it’s readers like you stepping up. Every dollar you chip in will help us produce the journalism that is needed at this crucial moment.
