Ten minutes to go and I can lock the shop’s door behind me. There are still a few customers who can’t decide what to buy, who test this perfume and then that one. One lady tests all the lipsticks on the shelf. Her friend is busy with the sunglasses. They must be tourists with lots of time on their hands. I have a fake smile glued on my face as I wait behind the counter for them to make up their minds. They walk out without buying anything. Now it is ten minutes past 5:00. They have wasted my time.
Sometimes I wonder if this is really what life is about. Working from 8:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m., I catch just a glimpse of the sunrise on my way to work every morning. I wish I could stand on that hill and wait for the sun to rise. To feel that isolation and listen to the birds welcoming a new day. It feels like life is slipping through my fingers without enjoying the little things in life that would make me happy.
