Welcome Corey Bowerman!

We are excited to have Corey Bowerman fill in for Emily Bradshaw while she is out on maternity leave. Corey comes with a diverse background in administration. He was a Director of Student Activities at Langley High School for six years before serving two years as an Assistant Principal.  As a DSA, he oversaw Health & PE and the custodial staff and as an AP, his responsibilities included supervising science and special education (Category A and Category B).  He concluded his career with 11 years as a DSA at Chantilly High School and last year, he spent four months as an interim AP at Oakton High School.

August 14 - Freshman and New Student Orientation

Rising 9th grade (current 8th grade) students and transfer students are invited to orientation on Thursday, August 14th at 9:00 am. Please check our website later in the summer for more details. Bus transportation for this event will be provided from all feeder elementary schools and Longfellow Middle School.

August 14 (6:00 - 7:00 PM - Auditorium)- Freshman and New Parent Information Night

We will hold an information night for freshman parents and new parents to McLean.  We will review topics such as schedules, communications, extra-curricular activities, high school credits, and much more.

August 28 - Celebrate McLean

Join us for Celebrate McLean on August 28th from 4:00 - 6:30 PM! It's a fantastic opportunity to discover more about our clubs, enjoy some games, and grab a bite to eat. Everyone in the community is welcome! Stick around after the celebration, as our football team kicks off against Chantilly at 7:00 PM.

2025-2026 Health Room Information

The goal of the school health room is for students to experience a healthy and safe school year. Please help us by following current medication policies and updating emergency contact and student health information!

Medications: Students are not permitted to carry or self-administer medications at school, except for emergency medications and pre-approved situations. Prescription and non-prescription medications are stored and administered in the school health room. All medications, including Tylenol, ibuprofen, inhalers and epinephrine, require a properly completed Authorization Form each school year.

You may drop off medications and forms in the health room (after checking into the main office) on August 12th (1pm – 5pm), August 14th (10:30am – 3pm) and August 15th (7:30 – Noon). Starting August 18th, you may drop off medications between 8am – 2:45pm. Please provide prescription medications in original containers with a pharmacy label (up-to a 30-day supply). The instructions on the completed Authorization Form (e.g., medication name, dosage, administration time) must match the pharmacy label. We are unable to make any exceptions. Over-the-counter medications must be in original, unopened containers with no more than 100 pills/tablets/capsules.

Emergency Contact and Health Information: Starting July 25th, you may update emergency contact and health information using the ParentVUE Online Verification/Update Packet (select ‘Online Packets’ at the top right corner and then ‘Online Verification/Update’). Alternatively, you may complete paper Emergency Care Information and Health Information forms at any time.

If you have any medication-related questions over the summer or would like to discuss student health concerns, please contact our Public Health Nurse, Heather Allison, at hallison@fcps.edu. If you have questions about dropping off medications, please contact our School Health Aide, Julie Gamboa, at jgamboa@fcps.edu or on or after August 11th.

Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Updates for 2025-26 School Year

At their May 8 meeting, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the SR&R, including its cell phone policy. Other SR&R updates include added clarity and/or procedures around topics such as discipline data, parent notifications, hate speech, and integrated discipline training. The full list of changes is available on BoardDocs.

Cell Phone Policy Update for High Schools

Beginning in August, high school students can only use their cell phones and other personal devices (AirPods, smart watches, etc.) during lunch and before or after school. This is a change from FCPS’ current cell phone policy, which allows high schoolers to use devices during passing periods. During the 2025-2026 school year, students must keep devices off and away during classroom time and during passing periods between classes.

SAT School Day and PSAT/NMSQT 2025

SAT School Day and PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) exams will be held at each high school, including ours, on Wednesday, October 8, at no cost to families. The digital SAT School Day exam is offered to 12th grade students, and the digital PSAT/NMSQT exam is provided to 10th and 11th grade students.

Accommodations for Students with Disabilities and Multilingual Learner Supports

Because these exams are operated by the College Board, students do not automatically receive testing accommodations or multilingual learner (ML) supports. If you have a student with disabilities entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade, please review the accommodations request process and return forms to our school by Monday, August 4, to request new or updated College Board testing accommodations.

If you have a multilingual learner (ML) entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade, please review the ML support request process and return forms by Thursday, August 28, if you wish to request ML supports for the October 2025 PSAT/NMSQT or SAT School Day.

Find out more about SAT and PSAT assessments in FCPS. For questions about the College Board accommodations and supports request process, please contact Rob Bouchard (rabouchard1@fcps.edu) for students with IEPs and Bethany Davis (bsdavis@fcps.edu) for students with 504s and multilingual learners.

AP Exam Scores

AP scores will be released to students beginning July 7. Students should use their College Board login credentials to access their AP scores online at apscore.org. Please note, some scores may take longer to process due to late testing or other circumstances. If your scores haven't arrived by Aug. 15, please contact AP Services for Students at 1-888-225-5427.
