Breaking the Curse of The Fantastic Four |
You’re almost certainly aware that The Fantastic Four: First Steps is not the first film to ever feature Marvel’s original superhero team. What you may not know, though, is that these characters had their initial onscreen outing in a 1994 film produced by Roger Corman—and forever shelved, because it was made so that one of his producer friends could meet a contractual deadline that would allow him to hang onto rights that were set to expire in 1993. Here, Anthony Breznican talks to the cast of that original film, tracking its promising beginning and ignominious legacy—which brightened slightly when Marvel invited all four of them to cameo in its big-budget Fantastic reboot. “I think the curse is broken,” says Jay Underwood, who played the Human Torch. “I hope this movie just goes through the roof.”
Elsewhere in HWD, Amy Odell dishes about her biography of Gwyneth Paltrow; Netflix might be getting out of the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle business; Meryl Streep gets back into character for the second Devil Wears Prada film; and Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson get cozy on the red carpet. |
