Thanks Sharon — I'm definitely interested in starting one in our area. We have a decent stretch of the canal path here and I know at least five neighbors who’d love something like that. I'll look into it.

Hi all, I wanted to share an idea I read in AARP magazine — forming local walking groups for community and fitness, especially in areas that don’t have traditional gyms. Has anyone started one near them? I’m in southern Indiana and curious how to get one going.

That’s a fantastic idea. I’m part of a similar group here in Kansas — we meet twice a week and walk the trail behind the fire station. It started with 3 people and now there are over 20. A lot of friendships formed just by showing up!

I’ve never started one myself but I joined one last year in Iowa. We use a group text to organize times. You could also post flyers at local co-ops or town halls. The consistency is what makes it work. People plan around it once it becomes a thing.

Hello group, Just thinking about ways to stay active and involved as summer winds down. Curious if anyone has experience organizing a small walking club, especially in more rural towns. Would love to learn what worked and what didn’t.
