If you’re yearning for the days of old when you could satisfyingly flip your phone shut after a call, rejoice: After months of real-world testing, our tech experts have found that this year’s foldable phones are (finally) reliable and useful enough for us to recommend.
They’re still expensive compared with other smartphones, and there are some factors to consider before you replace your standard smartphone with a foldable — like whether you’ll really use dual screens, if you’ll actually benefit from multitasking capabilities, and whether you’re willing to foot the bill for any accidental damage.
But this year, enhanced hinge mechanisms and stronger glass have made foldable phones much less fragile than they once were. So if you determine that a foldable does fit into your lifestyle and budget, this is the year to go for it.

In our tests, new instant coffees tasted more nuanced, more complex, more coffee-like than the old-school competitors — and they can be total game-changers on hectic mornings.
“Consider me a convert,” writes editorial director Marguerite Preston. “I’m about to splurge on a 48-pack to have at the ready for the first school morning that goes awry.”
