Parking Reconstruction at South Barton Street

Starting September 15, crews will fully rebuild the parking area the front of Arlington Village shopping plaza, and the length of South Barton Street adjacent to the plaza. This work will last about four weeks and is expected to be completed by October 10.

During this time, only the asphalted areas will close, and sidewalks and the bus stop will remain open. The back parking lot will remain open and accessible from South Cleveland Street. The parking lot behind 2400 Columbia Pike next door will remain open and accessible from Columbia Pike while the South Barton Street driveway is blocked.

Expect noise, dust, and the scent of asphalt during this work period.

After the parking area is rebuilt, crews will move on to reconstruct the sidewalk on South Barton Street between the front and back driveways into the Arlington Village plaza.

This work is in support of work on Segment D of the Columbia Pike Multimodal Project.

Columbia Pike Bike Boulevards Open House

Join County staff for an informational open house on Thursday, September 18, to see the community-informed concept designs for the Columbia Pike Bike Boulevard projects. The project will provide improvements to the existing routes on neighborhood streets parallel to Columbia Pike.

At the open house, you'll have a chance to see the designs, ask project staff questions, and give your own feedback to inform the next step in the design.

The open house will take place on Thursday, September 18, at 6:00 PM at the South Walter Reed Drive Community Center. Learn more on the event page.
