Anchorage Assembly member proposes 1% city sales tax →

Assembly member George Martinez, who introduced the proposal, anticipates a 1% levy would raise around $60 million a year. The new measure comes just six months after members of the Assembly rejected a different sales tax proposal.

The 80th percentile rule prevented Alaska patients from receiving large medical bills for out-of-network care. But the Dunleavy administration and the state’s biggest insurance company argued the rule also increased the cost of health care over time.
