Centreville Students, Families, and Community,
I first want to acknowledge our phenomenal Orchestra program for an exceptional winter concert last week. All seven of our orchestras, encompassing nearly 200 talented students, performed beautiful selections to celebrate the season. A special thank you goes to our dedicated Orchestra Directors, Dr. Taylor and Ms. Kohut, for their outstanding leadership in developing this truly premier program.
This week, we are following up on the message sent last Friday regarding our layered safety and security efforts. Beginning Monday, December 15, FCPS schools across the division will increase the sensitivity of the weapons detection system. This enhancement is a proactive step, not a response to any specific incident, and is meant to make the system even more effective as students become comfortable with the process. Please note that common items like 3-ring binders, laptops, and metal lunchboxes may be more likely to trigger an alert. We ask that students be mindful of necessary metal items and remember to remove triggering items from their bags to hand to a staff member, similar to how they handle their laptops.
When we return from winter break, we will begin the exciting process of supporting students with course selection for the 2026-2027 school year! To kick things off, we will host our Electives Fair on Monday, January 5th, where students can learn more about their elective options and hopefully find their passion among our courses. Following that, we invite all students and families to our Curriculum Night on January 8th, an opportunity to learn more about all the courses we offer and speak directly to our staff about the options. Our goal is to ensure our students have everything necessary to make informed decisions about their courses for next school year.
As the year draws to a close, I want to wish all our students, families, and community members a happy and restful holiday season. This is a wonderful time of year to spread joy and thanks, and I encourage everyone to prioritize spending quality time with loved ones. We look forward to welcoming everyone back energized and ready for a successful new year!
Thank you and Go Wildcats!
Dr. Erik Healey, Principal

WildCat B Students Spread Holiday Cheer: Our WildCat B students celebrated the holiday season by performing a variety of songs in a special Holiday Sing-a-Long, joined by students from the Partnership class, families, and staff. The event highlighted our new Partnership class, where students serve as peer mentors and form strong bonds with peers who have varying levels of disabilities. The class fosters inclusivity and strong relationships that often extend outside of school, with students eating lunch together and attending events. This program creates a strong foundation for a more inclusive school community.

Reporting Student Absences: We are committed to partnering with families to promote positive attendance habits. Whenever your child is unable to attend school, please let us know. Reporting absences helps our staff support students and connect them with resources they may need. Full-day absences can be reported in SIS ParentVUE. Parents can find all methods for reporting absences on our Attendance Reporting page. Parents may monitor their child’s attendance records in SIS ParentVUE.
It is also important to keep your child home when they are sick. The Can My Child Go to School? webpage provides helpful recommendations on when to keep your child home. For instance, a child should attend school if they have cold symptoms, as long as they are feeling like they can participate in school activities. However, if they have severe, uncontrolled, or rapid coughing; wheezing; or difficulty breathing, definitely keep them home and contact your health care provider.
Attendance Codes in SIS ParentVUE Explained: Attendance codes in SIS ParentVUE are assigned by school staff to better identify the reasons behind student absences. This allows us to respond thoughtfully and provide appropriate support. Visit the FCPS Attendance Policy webpage to learn more about the codes.
Winter Resources for Families: A list of resources has been compiled for students and families in case they or someone they know needs assistance while schools are closed for winter break. Please visit FCPS’ winter resources page for information on academic support, mental health support, and county resources related to food, clothing, housing, and other needs. We encourage students to take advantage of fun learning opportunities during the upcoming winter break and on snow days. Consider these winter activities to blend education and play at home.
