By now you have probably seen video of Renee Nicole Good being shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, and heard officials in the Trump administration attempt to justify the killing. But the images do not match the rhetoric. Her death fits a pattern of tragic, seemingly inevitable violence arising from confrontations between protesters and masked immigration officers fanned out across American cities.
And Lexington pays Donald Trump a backhanded compliment. Traditionally, presidents have extolled universal values while sometimes selfishly pursuing American interests. Hypocrisy has been called the tribute vice pays to virtue, but Mr Trump does not like paying for anything. The world will miss the old hypocrisy. |
