Good afternoon, Lorton Station families!

As a reminder, please dress your child according to the weather. We will continue to have outdoor recess unless the temperature is below 25 degrees. This means that a hat, coat, and gloves are essential for your child to enjoy the 30 minutes of recess daily. Additionally, please remember that we are a no-outside-food school. We do not accept or allow fast food deliveries for children's lunches. Food deliveries interrupt the If your child needs lunch, we are a CEP school that provides free breakfast and lunch to all students daily.

Quick highlights:

    • Please review your child's MAP Scores
    • Please review your child's iReady Scores
    • Please continue to work with your child to ensure they read at least 20 minutes a night

Have a great day,

Dr. Legagneur, Mr. Barton, and Ms. Champion

Martin Luther King, Jr. and National Day of Service

Martin Luther King Jr. Day (“MLK Day”), observed on the third Monday in January, is a day to honor and reflect upon the immense contributions of Dr. King to the civil rights movement. It is a time to remember his dream of equality, justice, and unity, and to engage in meaningful discussions about the ongoing struggle for civil rights and social justice in the United States and worldwide.

MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service, encouraging all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. During the last two decades, the MLK Day of Service has grown, and its impact is increasing as more Americans come to understand that citizenship involves taking an active role in improving their communities.

Students should have opportunities to engage in meaningful learning about Dr. King’s profound legacy and tireless advocacy.

Resources for MLK Day are available for teachers on the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Heritage 180 document. Teachers can find ideas for their social studies classroom learning experiences across grade levels. These resources have been curated specifically for the social studies curriculum but are available and accessible for any content area.

Want a quick way to recognize an employee or team? Share an FCPS CARES! Families, colleagues, and students are all invited to submit. The FCPS CARES is automatically sent to the recipient(s) and their supervisor, and is posted on fcps.edu. Additionally, each month one school in our region wins a staff celebration party from HR. Encourage your community to show our staff that their hard work is appreciated
