Student Achievement
Do you know a student, club, or team that has done something amazing? We want to hear about it! We're looking for accomplishments big or small to feature on the school website and in our weekly newsletter. Whether it's an academic achievement, an athletic victory, a creative project, or an act of community service, we want to shine a spotlight on the incredible things happening at McLean. Please fill out our Google Form to submit an accomplishment. To see a full list of student accomplishments, check out the Student Recognitions page on the McLean website.
Student Volunteer Group Expands Musical Outreach in the Community
Rising Stars, a student volunteer group that enriches the lives of senior citizens by providing musical outreach, is now also helping these seniors celebrate their birthdays. In addition to the monthly musical performance at a local senior citizens center, Rising Stars members now also personally deliver handwritten cards and sing happy birthday to each resident who is celebrating a birthday that month. Due to the popularity of the effort, the students now also include cards for the hard-working staff members of the senior center who are celebrating a birthday that month. So far, Rising Stars has delivered 119 birthday cards, helping bring extra joy to the birthday celebrations of our McLean neighbors. Rising Stars has multiple members from McLean High School.
Safety and Security
Student Medication and Important Health Room Procedures
With limited exceptions, students cannot carry or self-administer any medications at school, including Tylenol and ibuprofen. Prescription and non-prescription medications are stored and administered in the health room. Each medication, including over-the-counter remedies, epinephrine, and inhalers, requires a properly completed Authorization Form. If students are found with unauthorized medication at school, we will contact parents to come pick it up.
If your student will have a medication in the health room, please provide prescription medications in original containers with a pharmacy label (up-to a 30-day supply). The instructions on the completed Authorization Form (e.g., medication name, dosage, administration time) must match the pharmacy label. We are unable to make any exceptions. Over-the-counter medications must be in original, unopened containers with no more than 100 pills/tablets/capsules.
You may call the health room at 703-714-5710 if you have any questions or would like to coordinate a time to drop off a medication and Authorization Form for your student.

End of 2nd Quarter and Schedule Change Requests
The 2nd quarter ends on Wednesday, January 28th. The window for teachers to submit 2nd quarter grades is January 22nd through February 4th. To ensure accurate reporting of quarter grades, a pause will be placed on schedule changes during the grading window. Completed schedule change packets received by 12:00 PM on Tuesday, January 20th will be reviewed and, if approved and pending space availability, processed prior to the grading window opening on January 22nd. Any schedule change requests received after 12:00 PM on January 20th that are approved will be processed on Thursday, February 5th or after.
At this time, all elective changes are complete; the only schedule changes being considered are for downward level changes (e.g., AP to Honors, or Honors to non-Honors). The final deadline to request a schedule change for the 2025-26 school year is Wednesday, February 11th.
