Haycock Elementary Family Liaison Newsletter
9th Edition, January 2026

From Your Family Liaison: Kathryn Dunbar

Lip Balm

With Groundhog Day and hopes for an early Spring still a few weeks away, cold weather lingers on despite the few warm days at the beginning of January.

Staff at Haycock have noticed that the majority of our students are suffering from dry hands and severely chapped lips. If you are able, please add a small lotion and/or lip balm to your student's backpack (labeled with their name, of course!). Little things like this can keep your child focused in class!

ALSO - Students returned to school with lots of treasured items they received over the winter break: new water bottles, new lunchboxes, new jackets and sweaters...upon my personal inspection during lunch, most of these items are not labeled.

Shocked Emoji

I implore you to use a permanent marker and write your student's last name on a tag or the bottom of these new items. Lost items cannot be returned unless we know to whom they belong!.

   DID YOU KNOW...

Haycock’s chronic absenteeism rates are some of the lowest across the whole state of Virginia!! LETS KEEP IT THAT WAY!

Please schedule trips during school breaks and summertime. If your student is ill, please be in touch with their teacher to discuss missed assignments.

Together we can!
