Greetings McNair Students and Families,
Can you believe it? We are quickly approaching the end of the second quarter, which means we are officially halfway through the school year! This is a wonderful time to reflect on how much our students have grown since August and to set our sights on a strong second half.
As the temperature drops, we know it’s tempting to stay cozy under the covers, but daily attendance matters just as much in the winter as it does in the fall. Consistent attendance ensures your child doesn’t miss out on key concepts and social interactions that happen in the classroom every day.
We also kindly ask that you avoid scheduling family trips or appointments that extend beyond our scheduled school breaks. Missing school days directly impacts academic performance, particularly in foundational skills like reading and writing. We want every student to have the best possible chance at success!
One of the most impactful things you can do at home is to read with your child every night. Beyond just hearing the words, engaging in a conversation about the story helps build critical thinking and comprehension skills.
Not sure what to ask? Here are some simple, effective questions to spark a great discussion:
Before Reading:
-
"Looking at the cover, what do you think this book will be about?"
-
"Does this story remind you of anything we’ve done or seen before?"
During Reading:
After Reading:
-
"What was your favorite part of the story, and why?"
-
"If you could change the ending, what would happen instead?"
-
"What was the main problem in the story, and how was it solved?"
If you have any questions or if there's anything you would like to discuss, please feel free to reach out to us. Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education. Stay warm, stay curious, and let's make the rest of this year the best one yet! Have a great week, Mustangs!
