Greetings!
We’ve just published the first part of our investigation into Viktor Orbán’s foreign minister, Péter Szijjártó, and his collusion with Russian officials, including Sergey Lavrov and Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin. The investigation reveals how they worked to delist EU-sanctioned oligarchs and family members, and to prevent Russian companies and banks from being sanctioned by the EU. We are publishing transcript excerpts as well as an audio recording. The conversations also suggest that Slovakia acts as Hungary’s pro-Kremlin sidekick in these Trojan horse-like efforts.
While Szijjártó did not respond before publication, he reacted afterward by acknowledging the conversations and dismissing them with a “nothing to see here” line. Well, thanks, köszönöm.
This joint investigation was a true team effort. Alongside VSquare, our partners include Poland’s FRONTSTORY.PL, Delfi Estonia (also in Russian), The Insider (English and Russian), and Slovakia’s the Investigative Center of Ján Kuciak (ICJK). And there’s more to come—we’re just getting started.
