Hi folks,
The May online InfoQ Certified Architect Program cohort closes on Wednesday. Before it does, I want to answer the three things I hear most from people who are interested but haven't registered yet.
"I don't have four hours a week right now."
I understand. But what architects in the cohorts I have run tell me they cannot find inside their day job is structured time each week to step back and think. That is what these four hours are. The cohort gives you that thinking time, with feedback from people who have no stake in your internal politics and can tell you what they actually think.
Most participants tell me that the cohort didn't add to their workload. It made part of their existing workload more productive.
"I've been doing this for years. Will I actually get something out of it?"
The people who get the most from this cohort are not the ones looking to learn new frameworks. They are the ones carrying a decision they have been sitting with for a while, and are finally getting external feedback on it.
Mahdi Pourziaei, a Lead Software Engineer at Fashion Cloud GmbH, said it well after graduating: "I have a bit more confirmation and validation that some of the things that I'm doing are the right things. Some of them were not. Now I got feedback. And that in itself improves my confidence."
That is the real outcome. Not new knowledge. Tested confidence in the calls you are already making.
"I'll join the next one."
You might. But I have run enough of these now to notice a pattern. The people who join are the ones who have a specific decision on their desk right now that they want to pressure-test. If you have one of those, the May cohort is the right one.
If you are waiting for a quieter month, that month does not tend to arrive.
The cohort runs for five weeks starting May 7. Four hours per session. You bring real challenges from your own organization. You leave with an article submitted for publication on InfoQ.com and the ICSAET certification.
If you need approval, we have a 'Convince your Boss' template you can use.
Registration closes Wednesday, May 6.
I hope to see you there.
