“We need to borrow a grandmother,” Milo told us. My partner, Amy, and I had been together for over forty years, and with sharing five children and nine grandchildren, we knew only too well not to agree to any questionable propositions. Milo was the youngest of the troop with quite a distance between him and his closest sibling and cousin.

We waited.

“Our class is making cards for Mother’s Day,” he explained, “but when I asked the teacher when Grandma’s Day was, she said that there really wasn’t one.
