The Red Sox struck out 15 times against the Tigers on Wednesday night and were held to four hits. That’s a game that generally leaves a team moping around the clubhouse afterward.
But in this most unusual season, up is down, black is white, and the Sox beat the Tigers, 4-0, to finish off a three-game sweep before a crowd of 17,334 at Comerica Park.
It was only the third time in franchise history the Red Sox won a nine-inning game when they struck out at least 15 times and had four or fewer hits. The other times were on April 28, 2021 (1-0 at the Mets against Jacob deGrom), and June 23, 2023 (3-1 at the White Sox).
