The US has said it has targeted Iranian missile sites and boats attempting to place mines in an act of "self-defence". In a statement, US Central Command said the strikes were carried out "to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces". In response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had downed a US drone, and fired at a fighter jet and another drone in its airspace, state media reported. A fragile ceasefire is in place between the two countries and negotiations on a deal to bring the conflict to an end are ongoing. It's unclear what impact the latest strikes will have on any agreement, but US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said a deal was still possible and pointed to talks on Tuesday between Iran and mediator Qatar.
