Disregard. We mean, ignore. Google announced its new AI-first Search last week—its biggest overhaul in roughly 25 years—and its rollout is bringing to light an interesting (and likely unexpected) quirk.

If you search for the word "disregard," for example, the AI takes it as a command, saying something like: “Message received. Let me know what you would like to focus on or explore today.”

In trying to make the feature more conversational, the company that processes billions of searches a day apparently forgot that sometimes people just want a dictionary definition. (For its part, Google says it’s an issue with AI Overviews and is working on a fix.)
