Good evening and welcome to another election night!

It’s primary runoff day in Texas, where Senator John Cornyn, a veteran Republican, is straining to fend off a challenge from Ken Paxton, the hard-right, scandal-plagued state attorney general who was endorsed by President Trump.

Some Republicans worry that if Paxton is the nominee against James Talarico, the Democratic candidate, deep-red Texas will become politically competitive in the general election, further expanding the playing field at a time when Republicans increasingly find themselves on the defensive.

You can follow along with our Senate runoff coverage here, where we’ll also be tracking several House primary runoffs.

I’ll be back in your inbox early tomorrow morning to fill you in on what happened, and what might come next. See you then!
