The Intercept is reporting from the front lines and blowing the lid off the mistreatment of immigrants at ICE facilities around the country.

ICE detainees at the notorious Delaney Hall facility in New Jersey are being attacked with pepper spray and batons and have endured “scalding hot showers that have led to burns and blisters; worms in food; and [are] being denied medical care,” according to relatives and members of Congress who have accessed the facility.

Meanwhile, federal agents and state police have tear-gassed and beaten peaceful protesters outside the jail, which is operated by for-profit prison giant GEO Group.

This should be a national scandal. However, too many major corporate media outlets are downplaying the crisis at Delaney Hall or simply echoing the Trump administration’s message.

But The Intercept is reporting from the front lines and blowing the lid off the mistreatment of immigrants at ICE facilities around the country.

Will you donate $5 to help support The Intercept and our investigation of the horrific conditions at Delaney Hall and ICE detention centers around the country?

Violence at Delaney Hall escalated in retaliation for nonviolent protests, including a hunger and labor strike, over poor conditions, according to relatives of detained immigrants.

“My nephew can’t see right now because he was hit on the head with a baton,” the aunt of a detained man told The Intercept. “Prison operators told my nephew and the others on the hunger strike that ICE was going to negotiate on Thursday. They got hit instead.”

The alleged retaliation against detainees matches a long-standing pattern, according to a 2021 report from the American Civil Liberties Union, that detailed systematic abuses carried out against hunger strikers at dozens of facilities across 24 states.

The Intercept has been on the forefront of reporting on ICE abuses, and with a record number of immigrants dying in ICE custody, we’re counting on your support to continue this vital reporting.
